Vocational Training Program Overview

The Vocational Training Program at Buruuj Technical Secondary School is designed to provide essential skills and knowledge to individuals, especially those currently working as technicians but who have not had the opportunity to complete formal education. This program is structured to enhance the practical and theoretical knowledge of students, ensuring that they gain the competencies necessary for employment in various technical fields.

Program Duration and Structure

The program spans 29 weeks, during which students complete 232 hours of training. Of these, 70 hours are dedicated to theoretical instruction, while 162 hours are spent on practical training. The program is delivered in Somali, the local language, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

Program Eligibility

To enroll in the vocational training program, applicants must pass a literacy and basic math test. The program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to secure stable employment in their chosen field.

Specialized Training Programs

Students enrolled in the vocational program select one of the following specialized tracks, each designed to equip them with specific skills required for success in their respective industries:

1. Electrical Installation

Key Skills: Installation of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings

Electrical troubleshooting and fault-finding

Knowledge of electrical safety standards and codes

5. Automotive Electrical

Key Skills: Installation, maintenance, and repair of automotive electrical systems

Battery testing, wiring, and fuses

Alternator and starter motor diagnostics

Fault diagnosis of electrical components, including lights, sensors, and ECU systems

2. Solar Panel Installation

Key Skills: Installation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

Site assessment and layout design for optimal solar panel placement

Wiring and connection of solar panels to electrical systems

Troubleshooting and repair of solar systems

6. Woodworking

Key Skills: Techniques in wood cutting, shaping, and assembly

Furniture design and construction, including cabinetry and joinery

Wood finishing methods such as sanding, staining, and varnishing

Safe operation of woodworking tools and machinery

3. Automotive Mechanics

Key Skills: Diagnostics and repair of internal combustion engines

Engine assembly, disassembly, and reconditioning

Brake system repair and suspension work

Transmission, differential, and exhaust system maintenance

7. Metalworking

Key Skills: Metal cutting, shaping, and welding

Use of lathes, drills, and CNC machines for precise metalwork

Sheet metal fabrication and assembly

Metal joining techniques, including welding and riveting

4. Washer, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning

Key Skills: Repair and maintenance of washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners

Refrigerant handling and leak detection

Installation of new appliances and systems

Understanding of energy-efficient appliance operation

8. Computer and Mobile Repair

Key Skills: Diagnosis and repair of mobile phones, tablets, and computer hardware

Software installation, system upgrades, and virus removal

Motherboard and circuit board repair

Data recovery and backup procedures

9. Plumbing

Key Skills: Installation and maintenance of piping systems, including water, drainage, and gas lines

Pipe fitting, welding, and soldering for both residential and commercial applications

Drainage system repair and water supply system maintenance

Knowledge of plumbing codes and water conservation practices

10. Masonry

Key Skills: Construction of brick, block, and stone structures

Laying foundations, walls, and floors using masonry techniques

Mortar mixing and application for stonework and bricklaying

Restoration and repair of existing masonry structures
